I opened VirtualBox, clicked on NEW, entered a name for the virtual machine, choose the type of operating system, but when I wanted to choose a version, I only saw 32-bit versions and NO 64-bit versions as an option. but I'm still slightly unclear how that would function without a virtual machine. I experienced the same problem while trying to install a 64-bit version of Linux Mint inside VirtualBox. I already have a drag-and-drop back-up, and a Time Machine back-up, both on the same external HD.Īs I understand it, installing a fresh version of High Sierra would be quicker and simpler. Ideally I don't want to clone my internal HD. Sorry to ask again, but are you aware of a walk through for installing and running High Sierra on my external HD without a virtual machine? Would be helpful to know what steps I should be aiming for. I think it is USB 3, given that my MacBook ports are, but I can't work out how to check (⌘+I brings up an info window which doesn't state whether the drive is USB 3).Įncouraging to hear that the boot times aren't too slow. My external HD is a Seagate 1TB Mac OS Extended (Journaled) drive.
